General Benefits

1) It is recognized by NASSP.
The National Association of High School Principals as an official contest and activity of the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) recognizes the NBGE.

2) Your students could earn advanced placement.
As more colleges are learning of the benefits of the NBGE, we are seeing more and more colleges using the NBGE as a placement exam. You can best get your students prepared by using the exam as part of your class.

3) See how well your class ranks.
After your students take the exam you can evaluate your class performance and see how it compares with other classes.

4) See strengths and weaknesses of your class.
The exam provides detailed analysis that shows you exactly where your class is strong and where you can focus on review. Since you can instantly compare the performances of individual students in several grammatical areas, the NBGE offers a higher degree of specific analysis than is traditionally feasible.

5) Students are motivated to review on their own time.
The dynamic generation of the exam enables students to take the exam as often as they wish without seeing the same exam twice. Students see what they need to review and can repeat the exam until they are satisfied with their performance.

6) The NBGE automatically generates and grades your own personal tests and quizzes.
After you enter questions into your account, you can instruct the NBGE to dynamically generate customized tests for your students. This is a great way to hold students accountable for reviewing outside of class. You can log on at any time and see which students have taken any of your exams and how well they performed. You can have tests generated from your personal question bank, which will grow as you add questions year after year.

7) It is text independent.
The exam is not married to one textbook. It attempts to use grammatical terms that are widely accepted and integrate questions from many different instructors. However, you do have the option to rank your class among other classes that use the same textbook.

Beginning Greek Benefits

The NBGE is a great addition to the end of a first year Greek course. Not only does it provide motivation and analysis for your students, but it also can save you time at the end of the year when you really need it. The NBGE saves you time by automatically generating and grading the exam outside of class. Students are shown where they can study to improve and encouraged to retake the exam. This motivates them to review the basics on their own, which allows you to teach them more efficiently and watch their improvement.

Intermediate Greek Benefits

Even though the NBGE currently only offers one form of the national exam that covers the basics, nevertheless it is a great tool for your intermediate class.

1) It is a great kick-start to a second year course after summer vacation.

Students often have difficulty getting back into Greek after a summer break. The NBGE can help prepare your students to make the most of your intermediate course right from the first week. Simply let it be known that you will require students to take the NBGE in the first week of classes and that you highly recommend that they take it a few times before school begins so they can submit their best score. The NBGE will hold your students accountable for reviewing the basics and you will have more time to teach intermediate material.

2) Have your students review the basics outside of class so you can invest valuable class time on intermediate material.

You can assign the exam to your students each term (or even multiple times each term) as an accountability and learning tool for reviewing the basics. The students who don't need the review complete the assignment very quickly but the students who do need the review, find out what they need to study and can retake the exam, all outside of class. This leaves more time for you to focus on intermediate material in class and provides one more mechanism to keep students from slipping through the cracks.

Exam Process for Teachers

Step #1 Sign Up as an Instructor.
Once you sign up for an account to don't have to register again to use the NBGE in different classes or take the exam yourself.

Step #2 Create a Class .
Once you have logged in use the instructor menu to create a class. You will be given a class number to pass onto your students.

Step #3 Have your sign up and take the exam.
When your students sign up they will be asked for you class number. Once they are registered they can take the exam. You can decide whether you require proctors for the exam and you can even require certain people like TAs to be proctors.

Step #4 See the Results
Immediately after a student takes the exam you will be able to see their resutls in every area of the exam and how they compare with others.

Cost

There are a few methods of payment for the exam. One of our main goals is to keep the cost of the exam as low as possible (e.g., free custom exams). As we have added a considerable amount of new features and are expecting a few technical hiccups this year, we are keeping the price per student very low. Our long-term goal is to keep the cost as low as possible to encourage the greatest participation.

Unlimited School License.
Schools or instructors can purchase a School License for an academic year. Many schools recover this expense by charging the students a minimal course fee. A class license allows the students to take the NBGE as often as they wish within the academic year. The license fees are determined by the number of individual students who will be able to take the NBGE during the year no matter how many Greek courses they enroll in.

Here is the fee structure:

$150 for up to 10 students
$250 for up to 20 students
$300 for up to 30 students
$400 for up to 50 students
$480 for up to 60 students
$640 for up to 80 students
$800 for up to 100 students

$8 per student over 100

Limited Exam Passes
If the school only wants to cover the first exam and let students pay the half price retake fee, initial exam passes are available at 25% off the normal price per exam (There must be five or more students in the class.)

Students Pay Directly (with group discount)
If the school would rather have students individually pay for their own exams, the NBGE can make it so every student in the instructor's class can purchase the first exam at the group rate (25% off) and purchase retakes at half off the regular price.
